GPS technology has revolutionized modern warfare. Military organizations regularly depend on satellite technology for accurate positioning, timing and communications.
GPS receiver technology relies on signals broadcast from satellites orbiting 20,000 km above the earth at a frequency of approximately -163 dBW or about the strength of a single Christmas tree bulb. The low power of this transmission makes the signals vulnerable to being swamped by interfering signals from both malicious and non-malicious sources.
A simple 1 watt jammer, readily available on the Internet, can overpower GPS signals within a large area, denying a position solution from the victim receiver.
GPS anti-jam technology is quickly evolving. Until recently, size and cost considerations meant anti-jam systems were only feasible for extremely expensive assets, such as airplanes, helicopters and aircraft carriers. NovAtel's compact and affordable GAJT™ anti-jam antenna:
- Nullifies jammers, ensuring the satellite signals required to compute precise position will always be available
- Provides anti-jam performance comparable to large, multi-component Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna (CRPA) systems at a significantly lower cost

In 2011, NovAtel in conjunction with QinetiQ introduced the world's first single unit anti-jam antenna small enough and at a price point appropriate for military and security related land based vehicles. Called GAJT™ (pronounced “Gadget”), it improves the GPS jamming immunity of the connected receiver, significantly decreasing the reach of the jammer(s).
