Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
The area of unmanned aerial vehicles is focused on the design, development and production of automated, unmanned aircraft for use in diverse fields such as communications, reconnaissance, law enforcement, and research. GPS Car Navigation
GPS car navigation systems are playing an increasing role in the world of motor vehicles. Such GPS auto tracking systems, however, have not yet received broad industry acceptance and have certain limitations. A paper by Craig A. Scott explains the shortfalls of present GPS car navigation techniques and proposes solutions for future GPS auto tracking endeavors. Among other points, the paper notes the fact that, apart from the start and finish of journeys, motor vehicles are restricted to the mad network; a fact not reflected by positioning measurements.
Techniques do exist for correcting the measurements according to a map of the network but a mathematical framework for this correction process is lacking. Mr. Scott has developed such a framework resulting in a map-aided estimation process for GPS car navigation that takes into account the measurement noise statistics to optimally translate the raw position measurements onto the road network.
