OEM3-based DL Base Station Setup/Configuration

The OEM3-based DL receiver can be configured to simultaneously collect data to its internal PCMCIA card and output RTK corrections *IF* the data collection rate to the PCMCIA disk is 1 Hz.

If you try for 10 Hz, this might not work so well, due to software routing issues inside the DL (two processors routing data at the same time -- higher data rates to multiple destinations (PCMCIA and COM) result in increased odds of a data 'collision' which will cause the DL to stop logging, reset, etc.)

So let's pretend you want your DL to automatically collect data suitable for post processing, while outputting RTCA-type DGPS corrections from COM2. The following commands would be entered into the DL's COM1 port:

COM2 9600 N 8 1 N OFF ON
FIX POSITION lat lon hgt (enter your own lat, lon, hgt coordinates here)
LOG COM2 RTCAREF ONTIME 10
LOG COM2 RTCAOBS ONTIME 1
GROUP ADD POWERUP RGEB,ONTIME,1
GROUP ADD POWERUP ALMB,ONNEW,0
GROUP ADD POWERUP REPB,ONCHANGED,0
GROUP ADD POWERUP POSB,ONTIME,60
GROUP ADD POWERUP VERB,ONCE,0
SAVECONFIG

These commands are best entered using a simple terminal program like HyperTerminal. You can enter them using the "Command Console" under the GPSolution3 software, but make sure all other windows within that software are closed first, otherwise you will save to memory a condition where binary 'garbage' is output on COM1 when the DL is restarted. If you wish to obtain a copy of the GPSolution3 software, you can download it here:

If you wish to convert the data saved to the PCMCIA disk to RINEX format, you can use the Convert software to accomplish this; please ensure that you use the 'latest' beta though, which can be downloaded from NovAtel's website here:

Note: "FULL_310.exe" contains a copy of Convert v3.10, but there are known RINEX conversion bugs in that version; just overwrite Convert v3.10 with Convert v3.2b8 and you will be fine.

Additionally, you may find the following Application Note useful:

Note: Some of the commands are slightly different in this AppNote -- please feel free to use whichever version (this solution entry or the AppNote) works best for you.
