Remote sensing, once more commonly referred to as aerial photography, is the measuring and imaging of the ground from an elevated position, such as an aircraft or satellite. By integrating GNSS and Inertial technology with the airborne sensor, the process of “joining” images together or georeferencing LiDAR point clouds is now much easier – in real time or post mission. GNSS provides time and position information; inertial technology provides yaw, roll and pitch information. One only has to think of Google Earth, which utilizes aerial imagery as the foundation of their geographic viewer, to realize the impact of this amazing technology.

NovAtel’s industry-leading SPAN™ technology tightly couples a NovAtel GNSS receiver with your choice of inertial measurement unit (IMU).  SPAN technology is available at the OEM board level, or as a fully enclosed one or two box systems. The Waypoint® Inertial Explorer® (IE) post-processing software provides efficient post-processing of GNSS and inertial raw data for improved performance and reliability over real-time. IE also provides data import and export functionality, data and solution diagnostics and plotting.
